Our Story

Hi, I’m Grace. I’d like to tell you a little about how Ballerinas and Boys came to be.

I’m a mum of three. Soleil is 6, Zayn is 3 and Amaya is 6 months. I started this business primarily because I wanted to make clothing for my kids. Somewhere along the line it occurred to me that if I was making some for my kids, I could make more for others and sell them. So I did!

Our focus has always been modern clothing for kids. We work mostly with a monochrome palette, adding in pops of colour here and there. Our pieces aren't mass produced, we don't do large runs of clothing, which means the items you buy will remain unique.

I believe in quality clothing - clothing that will last. All items are tested on my children to make sure they withstand playtime.

All items on this site are designed in Sydney by myself (unless otherwise indicated). My clothing is all sewn on the mid north coast of New South Wales by another mum. I'm big on women supporting women in business, especially other mums.

From the start I wanted this to be a business that would stand up to scrutiny for ethics and sustainability. To that end I’ve created several very important practices that I hope will grow with the business. For example, I’m a stickler for waste. We don't waste anything in the production process. If anything is left over, it’s not discarded. Another purpose is found for it. Any excess fabric and off cuts we do create are donated to an elderly lady who makes blankets for babies in hospital neo natal care units all around Australia.
